The Greek pharmaceutical industry is emerging as a key driver of investment and growth, making dynamic investments in the country with the objective of transforming Greece into a regional hub for pharmaceutical research and manufacturing in Southeast Europe. Following a prolonged period of economic recession that constrained productive activity, the sector is currently implementing an extensive investment program totaling €1.2 billion, encompassing both the modernization of existing facilities and the establishment of new research and production infrastructures. A decisive role in activating these investments has been played by the reform of the clawback mechanism, within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0”.

Investments in research and production enhance the competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry, create stable and high-quality jobs, leverage the country’s highly skilled scientific workforce, and contribute to the repatriation of specialized scientists who emigrated in previous years. At the same time, they generate substantial added value for the national economy and support the sector’s sustainable growth trajectory.

Concurrently, strengthening domestic pharmaceutical production reinforces the resilience of the healthcare system, improves market supply adequacy, and reduces shortages, ensuring uninterrupted access for patients to reliable and affordable therapies. Upon completion of the investment program, the Greek pharmaceutical industry is expected to cover more than 60% of the country’s pharmaceutical needs.

Within this environment, Vocate consistently implements its strategy of investing in research, innovation, and new technologies. Its research program for the period 2022–2025 focuses on the development of advanced pharmaceutical dosage forms with high added value, in compliance with GMP and GLP requirements and the principles of Quality by Design, within the framework of the Recovery and Resilience Facility action “Greece 2.0”, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
